The album was recorded in the famous St Martini Kerk in Groningen (Netherlands). The historic organ used was enlarged in 1691-2 by Arp Schnitger (1648-1719), a highly influential North German organ builder. Showcases famous baroque organ music by Johann Sebastian Bach, who, together with Georg Friedrich Händel, was one of the most important composer of the baroque period. Bach was best known during his lifetime as an organist, organ consultant and composer of organ works both in the traditional German free genres - such as Preludes, Fantasias and Toccatas - and in the stricter forms, such as Chorale Preludes and Fugues.
The tracklisting consists of well-known pieces (Toccata & Fugue in D, Fantasy on ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’, Fantasy on ‘Eine feste Burg ist unser Gott’) mixed with highly demanding and very colorfully-registered organ pieces that are a little less well-known.
