Incorporating birdsong as a natural backdrop, the album opener “Alt Flyte r” acts as both manifesto and overture to an album brimming with mutated rhumbas, genetically altered calypso, alien free jazz in captivity, chattering future urban soundtracks, jungle rhythms, cool cosmopolitan sophistication, summertime jazz melodies and plaintive meditations. This is hybrid jazz improvisation, dipping into countless musical pools, creating wholly new sounds. However, leaving aside the inventiveness and will to explore unusual combinations, the album demonstrates how such experimentation can be a melodic adventure for the listener as well as the players. And the players themselves deliver performances that accentuate and enhance the compositional journey perfectly.
