Caribbean Stories was the initiating chapter, with the tenor sax planting the seeds of Caribbean music in thesame way as the dreams and scars of those who invigorated it. From its Indian inspirations to its large-scaleensembles, Symphonic Tales chose a different backdrop, but it never lost its forever-renewed Coltranianspirituality. Awé! is the synthesis – or rather the “creolization” – of these two previous adventures. The Caribbeanis still present, but its accents are more modern. The saxophonist extends a certain specifically French orchestralenergy all the while calling upon strings and woodwinds to take part. He also makes an old dream of his cometrue: playing with his friend, the pianist Éric Legnini.
