CARL DOBKINS Jr. was just seventeen years of age and still in High School, when he cut the million-selling ‘My Heart Is An Open Book’, in November 1958. In a relatively short recording career he went on to notch up three further hits, ‘If You Don’t Want My Lovin’’, ‘Lucky Devil’ and ‘Exclusively Yours’, plus a huge regional success, ‘Take Time Out’, as well as recording several other intriguing sides. For an 18-month period he was one of the hottest young R&R stars in the U.S., making 14 appearances on American Bandstand and headlining numerous one-nighters package tours. This compilation features his first 45, the self-penned ‘Take Hold Of My Hand’, recorded for Fraternity in early 1958, plus his releases for U.S. Decca between 1958-62, including his desperately-rare LP, “My Heart Is An Open Book”, plus a couple of sides which were not originally issued. These records are nowadays all highly collectable among R&R aficionados and are hard to find elsewhere on CD.
